We are in a series called The Seven Oppressive Spirits Plaguing Families of Inmates.

I propose to you that there were seven oppressive spirits present around the arrest, trial, sentencing, and execution of Jesus. These same oppressive spirits stand arrogantly against the families of inmates and prevent them from finding hope and redemption in Christ.

The seventh and last of these is the demon prince, Generational Curses. We find him in Galatians 3:13. “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”

Jesus has stepped up to the plate. He has looked square into the eye of the demon prince, Generational Curses: Incarceration, alcohol, drugs, sexual addiction, physical abuse and violence. You name the curse. Jesus has taken it upon himself. He has actually become whatever curse is present you the lives of those for whom he died.

Families of inmates often struggle with generational curse they don’t even know they have. The demon prince, Generational Curse, causes extreme reluctance to reach out for help. Often they see the curse as a “safe place.” But it is not. Generational curses keep generations of family members imprisoned in a “solitary confinement” designed to destroy them. This demon prince, Generational Curses, prevents hurting families in need of hope and redemption from ever darkening the door of a Mercy Heart community.

Covered by the blood of Christ, call out the demon prince, Generational Curses. May the bonds of Generational Curses be broken. In Jesus name may this powerful stronghold over families of inmates be torn down. May these families be delivered from the kingdom of darkness and redeemed by the Kingdom of Light by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
